Nagpur is often described as the ‘Tiger Capital of India’ as it sits in the centre of a network of sanctuaries and wildlife parks. Tiger safaris offer the chance to get a sighting of these magnificent beasts in the wild. Close to Nagpur you can book in for tiger trips at Bor and Umred Karhandla, a new park with regular sightings, while the healthiest population is said to be found in the Madhya Pradesh section of the Pench reserve.

Within an hour or two of Nagpur lies the historic town of Ramtek, famous for its association with the Hindu deity, Lord Rama. Among the many shrines to Rama is the temple on Ramgiri Hill which is believed to be more than 600 years old. Close to Ramtek you can also visit more history in Nagardhan a fortress town established by an ancient Suryavanshi King. His most impressive legacy is a stone fort whose inner courtyard is protected by ramparts and bastions.
