Things to do....
Tasmania Attractions
While there you can visit the gorgeous Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, or enjoy phenomenal natural beauty in locations such as Cataract Gorge Reserve, Cradle Mountain and Wineglass Bay Lookout.
Hobart
Hobart, Tasmania’s capital city, sits on the River Derwent in Tasmania’s south. Explore the converted colonial warehouses of Salamanca and on Saturdays there’s Salamanca Market, Tasmania’s most visited attraction. A short walk away is the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, or a short ferry ride takes you to Mona, one of the world’s largest private collections of old and new art. In almost every direction from Hobart there is something to discover, from stunning coastal scenery to the south, wineries to the east and World Heritage Wilderness to the west.
Launceston and the North
Tasmania’s north is a feast of historic streetscapes and heritage estates, rich farmland, premier cool-climate wines, fresh produce and a haven for designers and craft makers eager to talk about their work. The largest city in the region – and second largest in the state – is Launceston, a vibrant hub for food and wine and culture. There’s also a touch of wilderness with Cataract Gorge just a few minutes walk from the city centre. The city is located on the banks of the Tamar River and is the gateway to the Tamar Valley, a region where English conservatism sits happily alongside the unconventional and off beat.
Climate and Average Weather
Tasmania
Tasmania has a temperate maritime climate. There are clearly four seasons to be distinguished on this island. It can be cold in winter and autumn in Tasmania, so the best time to visit is in spring and summer. In Tasmania, the warmest months are December, January, February and March. Autumn has still sunny days and winter runs from May through August. However, the climate can vary greatly – on any given day.
The average maximum monthly summer temperatures sit between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius (62 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit) and winter monthly between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius (37 and 51 degrees Fahrenheit). Rainfall varies dramatically across the Island.
