It’s famous for being the first Australian province to be freely-settled. Named after William IV’s consort, there’s a very regal feel to Adelaide’s grid layout and colonial architecture. However, early inhabitants of SA did struggle, particularly to find food, which explains why they’re known as the Crow Eaters!
Things to do....
Adelaide Attractions
Make the most of a range of Adelaide activities and attractions. Head for the Barossa Valley and raise a glass to Australia’s finest wine region. Get up early and revel in the bustle of Adelaide Central Market. Explore North Terrace’s grand houses. Stop for coffee, or just soak up the culture.
Go Wine Tasting in South Australia
Think South Australia, think wine. SA is the wine capital of Australia, and most wineries are virtually on Adelaide’s doorstep. So if you’re partial to Shiraz, head for the Barossa. Got a liking for Riesling? Make tracks for the Clare Valley. The really big reds beckon in the Coonawarra. Aussies love exploring their ‘cellar doors’, and we think you will too!
Take a Tram to Glenelg Beach
Hop on an Adelaide tram, and a 25-minute ride to the coast brings you to Glenelg. Adelaide’s favourite seaside resort features a white sand beach and sun-kissed sidewalk cafes. Glenelg offers the opportunity to swim with wild dolphins or get hooked on fishing! It’s also the perfect venue for an ocean-going diving or snorkelling expedition.
Visit Germany in Adelaide
Historic Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. Set in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, it harks back to the days when Lutherans fled persecution in Prussia. Just twenty minutes from Adelaide, you’ll come across an Eine Kleine slice of Germany. It may seem a little kitsch, but there’s something quite fun about seeing Aussie men in lederhosen yodelling heartily!
