The Sir Garfield Sobers International Cricket Tournament has been held annually in the great man’s homeland since 1987, developing generations of young cricketers.
Nurturing not only their on-field skills, but also their all-round growth as humans, it is the only tournament of its kind in the world.
Over the years, the event has brought together over 300 teams, with participants hailing from the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA, India, Australia, South Africa, Switzerland and numerous Caribbean territories.
The 2026 competition is now open for bookings. This years winners were NY Tri-State Youth Cricket Development Inc. from USA who beat The Hills Cricket Academy – Australia
A highlight on the Barbados Sports Tourism calendar, the tournament is staged island-wide at historic grounds such as Wanderers, Empire, Weymouth, and the picturesque Isolation Cavaliers in the north of the island.
Alumni include Brian Lara, Darren Ganga, Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Sir Alastair Cook and James Anderson.
Currently players Roston Chase, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Kemar Roach and Kraigg Brathwaite have also participated.
Past champions include Canford from England, Wynberg from South Africa, Queen’s Park from Trinidad, Hills Academy from Australia, and local school Combermere.
Tournament Eligibility & Format
The tournament is restricted to players who have not reached their 19th birthday before August 31 of the year of the competition.
The tournament shall be divided into 2, 3 or 4 zones at the discretion of the organising committee, based on the number of teams participating. In each zone, all teams shall be scheduled to play against each other in a limited over game of 40 overs (20 overs for girls/women).
In the two-zone format, the semi-finalists shall be the two top teams in each zone.
In a three-zone format, the semi-finalists shall be the winners in their respective zones, with the fourth team being the one with the highest points among the second-placed teams.
In a four-zone format, the winner of zone A to play the winner of zone C and the winner of zone B to play the winner of zone D.
The finals will be held at the historic Kensington Oval, venue of the ICC World Cup Cricket Finals 2007, 2010 and 2024.
