Pakistan is one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had.
In 2022 we visited this spectacular country, 17 long years after an English touring party last played a match there. I honestly did not know what to expect.
On a previous trip to India, I spent four month following Gandhi’s story from where he lived to where he was assassinated and cremated.
In Pakistan I followed the story of Jinnah to his resting place at Mazar-e-Quaid, where we had special permission to go inside mausoleum. It’s when you follow the lives of these two powerful leaders you realise how difficult Mountbatten’s job was.
The two countries are extremely similar in architecture, and the people are just so friendly.
Friendly Pakistan
To give you an example, I went for walk in Faisalabad to the Iqbal Stadium, where the famous incident between Mike Gatting and Shakoor Rana took place. On the way back to the hotel, there were floodlights on in a ground. Two of us investigated and there was a T20 in progress, to which we were invited. The match was part of a PCB league, and the crowd was around a couple of hundred.
They all wanted photographs with us and asked me to present the man of the match award! I felt very honoured.
Everywhere we went we had security with us in numbers, even though we all felt extremely safe. The locals all seemed to want selfies and some wanted an interview.
Why book a Pakistan trip for 2024?
Our itinerary for October 2024 is similar to the last.
If you are thinking about coming, I can promise it will be an amazing experience.
I can’t wait to go back and have the same guide, who is extremely knowledgeable. The sightseeing is amazing and for all those who like photo opportunities, they are plentiful.
I am so confident you will enjoy it.
A traveller’s review
I asked Tony Wilson, who came with us, to write a paragraph about his trip:
We arrived at Heathrow for the early-morning flight to Pakistan with mixed emotions of excitement and nervousness about security. There was no need to worry about security. From start to finish, my wife and I felt safe and we were both made to feel very welcome. Everywhere we went people wanted to take selfies with us and say thank you for visiting their country. On the tour we had a very knowledgeable guide called Mo who showed us around some beautiful and wonderful places. Day one of the first Test saw a few records broken and a win in the fading light on the last day. While sat watching the Test and talking to the locals one asked Gary if he had seen Don Bradman play, which made us all laugh!
If I have tempted you, give us a call, I can promise you an amazing experience.
