After the euphoria of England winning the World Cup and the country still riding the crest of a wave! the country will now be immersed in the Ashes!
After the last series in Australia with their “Beat England” slogan we were undone by the brilliant bowling of Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins & Lyons, England was scratching about trying to find positions in the top five. England went with Stoneman, Vince & Malan to accompany Cook & Root. All three have gone and we are in the same boat. Burns has been scratching about trying to find form all season!
I have been crying out for Roy to be given a chance. If England is to win the Ashes he will be instrumental in our success! Our batsman on the last tour of Australia couldn’t cope with the pace or the spin of Lyons. When the ODI’s started Roy was dispatching them to all corners of the ground, going for just under eight an over, he won’t be concerned by their pace and if this pays off, it will give the rest of the batsman confidence following on from him.
With “sandpaper gate” behind us, I’m sure the three Aussies involved will be reminded and in for some stick!
It’s going to be a very intriguing contest, the “world of cricket” will be glued to!
I am expecting a very tight contest which will ebb and flow, without stating the obvious the first test is a must-win, we have a great record at Edgbaston let’s hope that continues.
I will be at all the venues, hopefully catching up with as many clients as I can, to be honest, they have become good friends. My life has never been better! I leave for New Zealand via San Francisco 24 October then fly to Melbourne 04 Dec to see my beloved Elton John before landing in SA mid-December to welcome the first fans in Johannesburg. The ODI/T20 series still have spaces and a fascinating itinerary to enjoy whilst the English winter takes its grip back home. Sadly I will be back in the cold for 3-4 weeks prior to setting off for the twin test tour in Sri Lanka mid-March which is going on sale shortly returning me in early April for the start of the next English cricket season..
All the best Gary. P.S. that’s me at Kingsmead, Durban choosing my lunch!
