On 13 June, Sara Malin representing International Cricket Tours and Prestige World was delighted to be invited by Elan Mottley Harris, Director UK Barbados Tourism to attend the ICC T20 World Cup match between West Indies Women v New Zealand Women at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.
Both ICT and Prestige World have worked extremely closely with Barbados Tourism providing opportunities for hundreds of cricket fans to travel to the Caribbean island across the years. Barbados is always a favourite destination for cricket fans to experience the vibrant Caribbean culture, world-class cricket and stunning beaches.
It was a fantastic occasion, expertly hosted by Elan who clearly has a natural flair for hospitality, shared with Beverley Hinkson, the High Commissioners wife, Cedric Lynch BDM, Kate Lord- Ralph owner of Shore Travel and a perfect example of how sport can create memorable travel experiences.
From the comfort of the hospitality suite, we enjoyed excellent views across the ground, a welcoming atmosphere and a lovely two-course meal before settling in for the cricket. It was the perfect opportunity to network and discuss all things cricket and travel. Both ICT and Prestige World have tours to Barbados coming in September this year which feature the Caribbean Premier League Games. These tours are only available to book until the end of June so get in touch with the team if you are looking for a last minute booking.
Back to the Utilita Bowl, they certainly catered for the occasion with visitors able to explore a lively choice of food vendors offering matchday favourites, snacks and drinks, including “The Cricket Hut” serving Caribbean drinks and foody favourites which added to the festival feel of the day.
On the pitch, West Indies Women delivered a thrilling performance, chasing 163 to win by seven wickets with just one ball remaining. Shemaine Campbelle was outstanding, top-scoring with an unbeaten 90, while captain Hayley Matthews contributed a stylish 48. A personal highlight was when Hayley Matthews’ dad came to the box, bringing warmth, pride and an extra Caribbean connection to a brilliant cricketing occasion.
With the growth of Women’s Cricket comes the interest in travel, at ICT and Prestige World we have created Women’s Cricket Tours for more than two decades now. You’ll travel with a like-minded group of travellers with a dedicated Tour Manager to watch world-class cricket abroad. Plus, you can personalise and tailor your tour or holiday to suit your specific needs.
Next on the horizon for Women’s Tour is the Champions Trophy taking place in February 2027 in Sri Lanka. Click here to find out more.
